The ratings are in for this week’s anticipated premieres of Tyler Perry’s OWN series “The Haves & The Have Nots” and VH1′s new scripted effort “Hit The Floor.”
Both series debuted strong with heavy promotion, and for “Hit The Floor,” a solid lift from “Love and Hip Hop Atlanta.”
Between the two, Tyler Perry’s “The Haves & The Have Nots” opened with the best figures, setting records for Oprah’s OWN with 1.77 million tuning in!
With those numbers, the show, which has drawn comparisons to soaps and dramas like “Dallas” and “Scandal,” earns the distinction of being OWN’s most-watched premiere to-date.
As for “Hit The Floor,” VH1′s first scripted effort since “Single Ladies,” the series opened with just over 1.5 million viewers (1.54 million to be exact). Including an encore airing late Monday night, the series opened with 2.5 million viewers.
Starring Kimberly Elise, “Hit The Floor” follows an aspiring cheerleader, whose mom just so happens to have cheered for the same professional basketball team. She also happens to be harboring a few secrets (sans the ending of the premiere episode).
Both series will continue to air in the same slots.
“Hit The Floor” airs Monday nights at 9 p.m. on VH1 and Tyler Perry’s “The Have & The Have Nots” airs Tuesday nights at 9 p.m. on OWN.
